02 nissan maxima manual transmissionSelect your vehicle options to narrow down results. Parts fit for the following vehicle options. Engine: 6 Cyl 3.0L, 6 Cyl 3.5L. Trim: GLE, GXE, GXEL, SE, SEL, SES. Making its sales debut in 1981 for the 1982 model year as the Datsun Maxima, it replaced the earlier Datsun 810. The Datsun brand was phased out in favor of Nissan in 1984 for the 1985 model year, thus becoming the Nissan Maxima. Its competitors include the Toyota Avalon, Dodge Charger, Kia Cadenza and the Chevrolet Impala. It was essentially a Japanese-market Datsun Bluebird (910) with a 3.9 in (99 mm) longer nose to accommodate the inline-six engine. This model replaced the Datsun 810 (first generation). The sedans have independent rear suspension while the wagon has a leaf sprung live rear axle. The use of USA-made parts was phased in prior to the passage of local content laws imposed by the U.S. Government.Warnings like those for a door being open, etc.In Japan, a smaller 2.0-liter version of this engine was fitted. These engines were the first V6 engine to be mass-produced in Japan. The second generation was assigned compact status in the US market. This was the last generation to be available as a station wagon, a version which had been offered since the Datsun 810 days.Automatic shoulder belts were now found on both the 1987 sedan and wagons built after February 1987.This feature used sonar waves to monitor the road conditions ahead and adjusted the shocks accordingly for the most controlled ride. 1988 was also the year that the previously standard digital touch system offered on the GXE sedan became part of the 'Electronics Package' option as well. The SE (and some GXEs) offered dual power seats, a five-speed manual transmission, three-way shock adjust suspension, front and rear windshield defroster, and a factory-installed security system.http://dyglas.com/userData/board/02-sentra-service-manual.xml

The SE also has a small rear spoiler, all-wheel disc brakes, black side rear view mirrors, and body molding (GXE got body-color side rear-view mirrors and matching body molding). Again, the Maxima's prime competitor was the similarly specified Toyota Cressida, which remained rear wheel drive. The Maxima provided a combination of luxury and sporty features while the Cressida was generally seen as being softer and more luxurious. It received the smaller V6 engine so that it would comply with Japanese Government dimension regulations that tax larger vehicles. The station wagon bodywork was not available in the home market, with the hardtop exclusive to Nissan Bluebird Store Japanese dealerships.A refresh occurred in August 1991 for the 1992 model year (from July 1991 production), adding a driver's side SRS airbag. The facelifted version was no longer offered in Japan. In the United States, the VG30E engine, which featured a variable intake manifold on automatic and manual transmission models, was used on all 1989 to 1994 GXE models and 1989 to 1991 SE models. This generation Maxima was fitted with an independent rear suspension, and continued to offer the road scanning, electronic Super Sonic Suspension (sonar). An interesting feature was the digital touch entry system on the GXE (in conjunction with the new Luxury Package), which allowed the windows to be lowered and the moon roof opened from outside the vehicle on a keypad integrated on the front door handle without the key in the ignition. Its iron block was topped with aluminum cylinder heads and featured a dual length intake manifold (5-speed model only), variable intake valve timing, coil on plug ignition, plus a limited-slip differential. The VE30DE was rated at 190 hp (142 kW) at 5600 rpm and 190 lb?ft (258 N?m) at 4000 rpm, and had a 6500 rpm redline. The SE models can be further distinguished from the GXE by their white-faced gauges, twisted-spoke turbine wheels (.http://www.e-spawalnik.pl/userfiles/100-brain-course-master-manual.xml5 inch wider than GXE wheels and similar in design to wheels offered on the Z31 300ZX), body-colored grille, twin-tip mufflers, factory-tinted tail lights, black trim replacing chrome, firmer sport suspension, and optional 5-speed manual transmission. The SE also had a rear spoiler and black side mirrors, whereas the GXE has body-color side mirrors. For European markets, the model range was: 3.0, 3.0 S, and 3.0 SE. The Ti added a rear spoiler, climate control air conditioning, anti-lock brakes, electric seats and a PIN touch-pad locking system. The Maxima SE was on Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for 1990.Among interior changes were a different steering wheel and CD player. Front seat-mounted side impact airbags were added as an option for 1998 and 1999 SE and GLE models. There were also structural modifications to improve crash worthiness for the 1997 to 1999 models. The interior gauge cluster was also titanium tinted and the optional leather seats were perforated and embossed with SE on the backrests. The front floor mats were also embossed with SE-Limited logos. The fourth generation Maxima was highly praised for its quiet, roomy interior. The Maxima SE again made Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for 1995 and 1996.A viscous limited slip differential came standard on Canadian SE models equipped with the 5-speed manual (in the US, the VLSD was restricted to the Infiniti I30 ). The automatic was a no cost option, which most Maximas were equipped with. The Cefiro badge had previously been used on a Nissan Laurel -based, higher specification model with rear-wheel drive (see A31 Cefiro). For the Japanese market, a Cefiro-badged station wagon was also available. The 2001 Maxima had a special edition of the SE model which commemorated the 20th anniversary of the Maxima. In addition to the usual SE content, this car had the Infiniti I30's engine, special skirts (ground effects) all around the lower perimeter, and special touches to the interior.http://www.drupalitalia.org/node/65984 The optional leather interior was perforated, unlike that in the regular SE.Many transmission-like problems such as 'unable to shift into higher gears' resulted from worn engine mounts triggering signals to prevent the vehicle from gaining higher speeds. This problem was not often detected by the diagnostics conducted on the transmission and ECM as they were not the cause of the problem. The GPS navigation system was never offered in Canada. The Titanium Edition was available in all colours, but a new colour was available only with the Titanium Edition (Polished Titanium). In Canada, all 2002-2003 models came with heated seats and a heated leather wrapped steering wheel. In Russia and Europe, the Maxima was being sold as Nissan Maxima QX.In the US, it came with the venerable VQ35DE, a DOHC V6 engine that produced 265 hp (198 kW) at 5,800 rpm, and 255 lb?ft (346 N?m) of torque at 4,400 rpm and a standard SkyView fixed glass paneled roof that ran down the center of the roof (from front to back) or an optional traditional style moonroof. Sixth generation Maximas were available in two trim levels, SE and SL. The manual transmission was never offered in the SL model and the suspension is tuned for a softer ride. For all models, the rear independent suspension returned, this time using a multilink setup similar to the Altima. It featured a freshened front fascia (lacking the center block, the new grille closely resembled that of the 2007 Altima). Headlights were also more squared around the edges. New interior changes included an Intelligent Key system with integrated ignition tab, new center console, and new white-and-orange gauges as opposed to the older pure orange ones. A Platinum Edition package of convenience features was added for 2008 on both SE and SL trim levels.AG4FW.COM/images/02-montero-sport-repair-manual.pdfThe Australian version was code-named J31, shared the VQ engine, initially only came with a four-speed automatic transmission, and had quite noticeable styling differences to the North American version as it was based on the Nissan Teana. In 2007, it received a minor mid-life facelift and an all new CVT automatic transmission. It was based on the Maxima but utilized certain pieces of the JDM Nissan Presage design already mentioned, same as the Nissan Teana. The North American Maxima was known for a balance between sport and luxury; other models tended to focus more on comfort. The seventh generation Maxima (A35) is built on the Nissan D platform sharing this platform with the fourth generation Nissan Altima and second generation Nissan Murano. The exterior and interior design are somewhat similar to the Infiniti G and Infiniti M, with an updated navigation interface and optional USB interface system that works with the main console monitor and steering wheel controls. It serves as Nissan's North American top front wheel drive sedan at Nissan dealerships. The current Maxima's design trades height and length for a sleeker styling, although the width has been increased slightly. The keyless ignition uses a push button to start and stop the engine. In the U.S., the seventh generation Maxima went on sale in late June 2008. The SkyView center glass was replaced by a retractable panoramic moonroof for A35 series Maxima.Three new exterior colors, Java Metallic, Dark Slate, and Pearl White are available. There is the Bose Audio Package, a Bose audio upgrade with SiriusXM Satellite Radio functionality. The Sport Package includes alloy wheels and a climate-controlled driver's seat, combined with the Maxima Monitor Package (a rearview camera system, seven-inch color monitor, USB port and an iPod storage net). This has smoked appearance HID Xenon headlights, a compass in the rearview mirror, rear spoiler, fog lights, outside mirrors with integrated turn signals and metallic trim treatment. The Monitor and HID Xenon Packages were no longer available, while the SV received most of the Monitor package as standard. There were two new exterior colors: Gun Metallic (replaces Dark Gray) and Midnight Garnet (replaces Tuscan Sun); for eight available exterior colors total. The 3.5 S and 3.5 SV were the available models, each powered by a 290 hp (216 kW) 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to an Xtronic CVT. 2014 was the last year for this generation Nissan Maxima, despite it carrying over into 2015 as a 2014 model year. There was also an SR Midnight Edition that was introduced in 2016. It was an addon package to the SR in 2016. It became a trim in 2017, and in 2018 it was a package that could be added onto the SR trim. The Midnight Edition blacked out most chrome (Grille, rims, rear chrome, exhaust tips, etc.) and added a more sporty appearance to the Maxima. From 2003 until 2013, Nissan in Australasia also retailed the Teana under the Maxima badge.CS1 maint: unfit url ( link ) Retrieved 19 June 2015. Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Overview If only car companies made breakfast cereals instead. Don't worry, this analogy really is going somewhere. See, the thing about Kellogg's or General Mills is that whenever they come out with another delectable treat for your sleep-deprived taste buds, they still have the old standbys--Frosted Flakes, Cheerios, etc.--left around for those folks who don't want to change flavors. But carmakers have to constantly improve their standbys, while at the same time entirely upgrading old models--truthfully, introducing new cars with the same old names--just to keep up with the competition. And the Maxima was Nissan's one-time best-seller as well as a car that keyed Nissan's big push during the 1980s. So how can they continue to charge more for the Maxima, when the Altima is now slightly bigger inside, arguably handles much better and in general is a more refined package. Nissan says it will sell Maximas--although they project they will sell fewer of them in 2002--to a more upmarket buyer, one more interested in refinement and less entranced by performance. So they'll load the Maxima with all sorts of options not available on the Altima, like an auto-dimming rearview mirror; an onboard navigation system; high-intensity discharge headlamps; heated steering wheel, seats and outside mirrors; traction control and a limited-slip differential. The latest Maxima also gets a 255-horsepower V-6 (the same engine comes in the Altima as an option, but there it only generates 240 horses) and a more refined suspension, as well as stronger brakes. But can you really sell a car because it has better options. Actually, we think the Maxima might not be a bad buy at all--for the right buyer. See, that new suspension gives the Nissan flagship a super-plush ride and the V-6 has jetlike power for supreme highway cruisability. Yes, but what about when you bend the Maxima through switchbacking roads. And what about the competition. Would you be happier in the new Toyota Camry, the Passat, or the newly enlarged 2002 Audi A4. We've driven the six-speed with limited-slip on earlier tests and, besides the always pleasant option of choosing your own gears, having a system in place that stops wheelspin is an absolute necessity in a powerful, front-wheel drive car. And interestingly, despite making many other contraptions standard on the new Maxima, Nissan's chosen to leave the devices that lessen torque steer on the options side of the sticker, a regrettable decision to our way of thinking. In other words, if you buy this car, get traction control or the differential. You'll be happy you did. So, what's the car like without mechanical engine babysitters? Fast. Very fast. And very refined, at least on the highway. Nissan is right to think that a more upscale client might go for the Maxima over the Altima. For one thing, it's quieter inside (liquid-filled engine mounts reduce the sound that travels through the firewall), with a softer ride aided by a reengineered suspension. Still, you can hear the clean roar of the V-6 when you tromp on the throttle, a welcome sound that lets you know you're not in a flavorless people-mover. Where we'd like more response is in the steering wheel; steering effort and response is too light. We know, we know: Nissan wants this car to line up with Camrys and Accords, cars that long ago became appliances that can be driven hard but hardly revel in the task. Still, there's already too much character in the Maxima's motor and suspension to pretend this car isn't about driving pleasure. And where you really want steering feel is in a corner, though on a hairpin turn that's the least of the Maxima's faults. First, you need the manual to enjoy driving this car on Silly Straw-shaped highways. The four-speed autobox thankfully has a toggle between third and fourth gear, so you can at least yank the stick toward you and drop down a gear for quick deceleration before a turn; however, it's not the same as being able to crank through a real manual transmission. Second, it's now clear that the Altima's suspension is far more cut out for backroad work than that of the Maxima. There's just too much body roll with the Maxima, and on off-camber pavement, all sorts of squatting and diving as well. Thankfully, some Nissan engineer somewhere convinced the company's bosses to throw on some 17-inch, 50 series tires, and the extra grip from all that rubber keeps the Maxima grabbing the tarmac hard, even when you think it might let go. During everyday driving, the Maxima cabin is a very, very pleasant place to settle into. The GLE model gets automatic temperature controls; an electronically adjustable driver's seat with memory settings; leather on the wheel, seats, and shifter; and if you like, a Bose 200-watt audio unit with in-dash, six-disc CD changer. More to the point, the driving position is upright and comfortable for long-haul commutes, and backseaters have excellent legroom. At the wheel of the Maxima, we noticed that the dual cupholders will accommodate a one-liter bottle of water, but will also grab a little Starbuck's eight-ounce coffee. We also liked the sculpted, spatula-like levers to control the air vents and the fact that the sunvisors have extenders. But there are other cars that are this plush, this accommodating or this much fun to drive. We find the Volkswagen Passat to be as agile if not more so and for 2002, that car comes standard with traction control to eliminate front-wheel slip. And the sister of the VW, the enlarged Audi A4 that we just tested (we'll have a feature on Audi in the coming weeks), is nearly as big inside. With a new, 221-horsepower motor, we think it will probably hang just fine with the Maxima in a straight line, but more importantly, will easily outcorner it. Still, where the Maxima has to hold its own is against the Camry. Toyota has a really strong car in their new bread-and-butter sedan, with better balance between the engine and driving dynamics. However, it isn't nearly as quick as the Maxima. All Rights Reserved. Report a Security Issue AdChoices. The two models are now the same length, and though the Altima is still considered second in rank, it has a longer wheelbase than the Maxima. Nissan took a curious route when it redesigned the Altima for 2002. But in most shoppers. The Maxima was redesigned for the 2000 model year, but the 2002 model gets a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that produces 255 horsepower (33 hp more than before). The grille and fascia have been restyled, high-intensity-discharge headlights are installed, and side sill spoilers are standard.A new close-ratio six-speed-manual transmission is available for the Maxima SE sedan, and the automatic unit has been strengthened, according to Nissan. Antilock brakes gain electronic brake-force distribution and Brake Assist. The Maxima?s gauges are now titanium-colored rather than white-faced, and a Meridian Edition for the SE and GLE includes heated seats and mirrors. New taillights incorporate clear reflectors, and new side sill spoilers are standard. On a 108.3-inch wheelbase, the four-door sedan measures 191.5 inches long overall and stretches 70.3 inches wide. Aluminum wheels hold 17-inch tires on the SE and GLE models, while the lower-end GXE gets 16-inchers. Nissan?s California studio did the styling, whereas the I35 was designed in Japan. Seats may be ordered in cloth or leather. The seven-speaker, 200-watt Bose premium audio system includes a cassette player and an in-dash six-CD changer, along with steering-wheel controls, speed-sensitive volume controls and Radio Data System (RDS) operation. Nissan?s 3-D Birdview navigation system is optional. Side-impact airbags for the front seats are optional. Traction control can be ordered as an option on GLE and SE models with the automatic transmission. Sure-footed on the pavement and precise in control, the sedan also delivers a generally appealing ride, but its overall quality depends on the model. The SE model?s suspension isn?t as absorbent as some, so rough surfaces can stir the sedan?s occupants at times. In fact, the SE suspension borders on stiff. Serious bumps can produce quite a jolt, but the ride on smooth roads is just fine. Except for a bit of tire noise, the SE proved to be quiet. Automatic-transmission shifts in the SE sedan can come a little too soon for full performance when starting off from a standstill, but otherwise the unit operates smoothly. But gauges are distinctive, and the dashboard?s center panel is steeply angled. The latest Maxima is refined, civilized, decidedly sportier and more performance-focused than the Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. Then again, so was its less-potent predecessor. It shows its age, but, it has aged well. I’ve done the required maintenance since day one. I just installed a new alternator and battery. Read full reviewRead full reviewMore power and more car than the competition for little or no more money. The 2002 Maxima. Most policies exclude regular maintenance like fluid top offs and oil changes, but a few brands have separate free-maintenance provisions, and those that do offer them is slowly rising. Bumper-to-bumper warranties typically expire faster than powertrain warranties. It typically covers just the engine and transmission, along with any other moving parts that lead to the wheels, like the driveshaft and constant velocity joints. Some automakers also bundle seat belts and airbags into their powertrain warranties. With a few exceptions, powertrain warranties don't cover regular maintenance like engine tuneups and tire rotations. These programs cover anything from flat-tire changes and locksmith services to jump-starts and towing. Few reimburse incidental costs like motel rooms (if you have to wait for repairs). Some include consumables including brake pads and windshield wipers; others do not. They are typically for the first couple of years of ownership of a new car. While dealers and third parties certify cars, the gold standard is an automaker-certified vehicle that provides a factory-backed warranty, often extending the original coverage. Vehicles must be in excellent condition and have low miles and wear to be certified, which is why off-lease vehicles feed many CPO programs. Drove off the lot the same day feeling like I got the most bang for my buck!! Thanks Robbie! But they keep me informed about what they have Worked with me on getting me the best price he could. I would recommend this dealership to my friends. Rare in the used car industry. Really good thanks Then waited another 20 minutes when the vehicle would not MOVE AT ALL. The dealership has not called me back nor have they sold ir moved the vehicle for over 2 weeks. It is still listed for sale last I checked. I am going to look at the vehicle Thank you Asked why, but said that’s the price. Please, they should be warned to please list and sell at the displaced price. Probably why the vehicle is still not sold. I just wanted to purchase this vehicle but got the run around. Keith Very helpful and patient with my questions thanks He had exactly what I was looking for however the travel distance between us made it an impractical purchase for me. And the 20-year old youth in you craves a fun and sporty ride. The 2002 Nissan Maxima tries to fill all those roles by upping its horsepower this year and adding sportier exterior and interior trimmings. Available in base GXE, sports-oriented SE, and upscale GLE models, the 2002 Maxima gets a new 3.5-liter, 255-hp V6 engine this year. While a 4-speed auto tran is standard for the GXE and GLE, the V6 on the SE is matched to a new 6-speed manual gearbox, to enhance driving performance and feel. All of the Maximas now feature xenon headlights, which improve visibility, but apparently are a target for thieves looking for aftermarket parts for earlier Maximas. All models get 8-way power seats, while the GLE gets dual power front seats with a driver's memory setting. The base GXE is much more loaded than in 2001, with new 16-inch wheels, steering wheel-mounted audio, cruise control, a garage opener, CD player, and auto-dimming mirror. For 2002, the GLE gets upgraded audio and an optional navigation system. A trip computer is also new for all models this year, and a sunroof is optional on both the SE and GLE. Seat comfort overall is more supportive. The SE remains the choice of driving enthusiasts, with a stiffer suspension, performance tires, a rear spoiler, leather-wrapped wheel, and chrome exhaust pipes. Though drivers love the extra power, more aggressive styling, and family-sized room in the 2002 Maxima, many opt for the cheaper Altima, which is similarly equipped and is actually the Maxima's chief competition. Drawbacks to Maxima ownership include a wide turning radius, poor customer service, low fuel economy, and a so-so sound system. James21204 5.0 out of 5 stars. The fifth generation of Maxima was introduced in 2000 and remained with minor upgrades until it was replaced with 04 model in 2003. The Maxima is a spacious mid-size four-door sedan with many attributes of a luxury vehicle and one of the best V6 engine in its class. Front-wheel drive, transversely mounted V6 engine, five- or from 2002 model, six-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission, MacPherson struts in the front, semi-independent torsion beam suspension in the back, disk brakes on all four wheels. The only engine choice - the 3.0-liter 222-horsepower (increased to 3.5-liter 255-horsepower from 2002) DOHC V6, famous VQ-model engine. There are many luxury features available, such as 8-way power driver's seat with memory, auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated steering wheel, trip computer, steering wheel mounted audio controls, Nissan Navigation System, etc. Handling is good, although there is notable torque steer on hard acceleration. Ride is firm and fairly quiet. Overall, the Maxima has very solid feel with excellent passing power. Traction control is optional. Dual-stage front airbags are standard, side-impact airbags are available as an option.Good news, there is no timing belt that would need regular replacement, silent chain is used instead. Platinum spark plugs provide longer service intervals. If properly maintained, you shouldn't expect any major problems with this engine. Main competitors are Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.A history report may help you to uncover some of the problems the car might have in the past such as accidents, flood damage, rolled back odometer, etc.
