Scott Novis 3.0 out of 5 stars I was hoping to find information specific to coaching little league. The rules for little league make it very different than club or high school baseball (no lead offs, 60 foot bases, no balks). I found the book to be a little more of a philosophical approach to coaching with a few good tips. There is balance between treating players with respect and maintaining authority over a team. Now looking back at the title I can see that the author focused on a managing approach that works across a wide spectrum of team and skill levels.http://www.misvo.cz/userfiles/dell-latitude-cpx-laptop-manual.xml
I found it useful. When I had a question, I contacted the author and he immediately replied with more detail. I feel like if you can get ONE useful idea out of a book that you can put into practice than it is worth while. For me this book was more than worth while.Respect them by the way you talk to them, the way you conduct practices, and by listening to them. While this is an important message, and it is delivered with anecdotes here, it is hardly revolutionary, especially by the people most likely to purchase this book. When my best friend died in 2001 from a heart attack I put down in print all of the adventures we had shared. His niece put a book together and started it with our stories. I enjoyed the writing but didn't take it seriously as a business.https://www.mistressayn.com/images/94-chevy-suburban-shop-manual.pdf Eight years later I reunited with my high school sweetheart and was allowed to spend the most amazing seven months with the woman I had searched and sought after for thirty years. We shared a love you only read about or see in a movie. Her breast cancer returned and took her July of 2009. I did not know how to deal with the grief. Writing about our experiences has tremendously helped in the healing process. Please take a moment and check out both books if you have lost a very dear loved one and are still suffering from the pain and grief. Along with those topics I have been heavily involved with youth baseball for thirty plus years and have wrote a easy to follow manual for coaching youths. The final book in this collection is one my daugher wrote, Romantic Erotic Encouters. She was a dancer for a few years earning extra cash for her family and shared some of the stories she heard during her career. Take the time and check out the sites I knew the original work wasn't a complete manual but more of a starter's guide to get the ball rolling and cover the most basics of the game. I listened and came up with the following additions and changes. A new chapter has been added for coaches and pitchers. I go a little deeper into handling parents and added some more in-depth drills for the players. I have added the scouting reports I used as a tool for evaluating players and teams. I would attend a game and watch each player and how they performed. This is completely different then actually watching a game. When the game was over, I took the notes home and wrote up an evaluation so the coach could see where improvements were required. Even the best of teams need a little outside coaching. I never charged the coach for the report because it was prepared in the spirit of getting the players to excel and have FUN. Coach Dawson has been involved with baseball for the last thirty years as a player, coach, league organizer and umpire. He presents and lays out the most fundamental areas of the game. Thank you for respecting the hard work of this author. How do we deal with these people. We address them the same as we do our players. We have a team meeting; explain the rules, our philosophy, and acceptable and unacceptable behavior. We want the parents involved but within the guidelines we lay out. We want the parents involved but not to the point where they are coaching their children. The best example I can think of is when players are batting. If the coach has been watching the players, he has a good idea what they are doing wrong at the plate, whereas Mom or Dad don't. Click here to learn more about my youth pitching program.Click here to subscribe Make certain there is a good in-season arm care and recovery program available for and used by your pitchers. The 2021 National Baseball Pitching Survey is the most important poll we take all year. It's just 5 questions. Take the survey now. To the best of your ability, encourage your pitchers to start throwing a few times per week approximately 8 weeks before the season begins. Dynamic stretching before competition is better than static stretching. Drills can include arm circles, trunk twists, high knees, butt kicks, side shuffles, back pedals, etc. This actually weakens the pitching arm. The exercises should take no more than 10 minutes. Tubing exercises or lightweight 3-5 pound dumbbells are best. Many pitchers restrict their flexibility and range of motion by improper use of weights. According to this 2010 study, playing catcher appears to increase a pitcher's risk of injury. The positions which would cause the least amount of stress on the arm are first base or outfield. But even playing those positions can put extra stresses on the throwing arm, so be careful. And also not over dressed to prevent early heat exhaustion during very hot weather. I always kept a towel in my baseball bag to dry off between innings on really hot days. The key is to stay dry. At a minimum, encourage your pitchers to have a small cup full of water (6-8 ounces) between innings. When pitchers don't know when they're scheduled to pitch, they're unable to get into a consistent routine between starts and properly prepare to pitch. This will allow them to schedule their running, conditioning, long toss, and bullpen sessions during the week and allow them to be physically and mentally ready on game day. It's important to note that pitch count as a measure is far more effective and reliable than the number of innings pitched, especially at the Little League level of the game, where errors in the field can cause very long innings. I believe each pitcher should have at least 48 hours rest between outings. And at practices, do not have pitchers throw hard 48 hours before a game is scheduled. It is, therefore, very important that a coach is able to recognize changes in a pitcher's normal motion. It will look like the pitcher is dragging his arm and he'll have a loss of hand speed because he has disrupted his normal throwing sequence. The pitcher may shorten his follow through (deceleration of the arm) and not use his normal arm extension upon and after ball release. The pitcher may not get his hand up into a normal high cocked position. It will appear that he has dropped his elbow during the cocking and acceleration phases. Between innings, the pitcher may hold or massage his arm displaying pain. With muscle fatigue, a pitcher's hand often trembles. Between pitching assignments, the pitcher may be reluctant to throw, or throw properly during dill work, since he is attempting to protect his arm from further stress and pain. Even if a player is coming into pitch having previously been playing in the field, he needs those pitches to warm up his arm again and prepare it for the demands of pitching. While each pitcher throw somewhat within his own style, through the critical phase of throwing, most successful injury free pitchers use very similar time-proven techniques. Youth pitchers with better pitching mechanics generate lower humeral internal rotation torque, lower elbow valgus load, and more efficiency than do those with improper mechanics, according to a 2009 study. Proper pitching mechanics may also help prevent shoulder and elbow injuries in youth pitchers. If you observe mechanical flaws, fix them. Especially make sure that pitchers are rotating their hip, not throwing with “all arm.” Specifically, improving core strength and trunk control in an effort to maintain a more upright posture through the pitching cycle can reduce upper extremity joint stresses, according to a 2015 study. The use of pills (Advil, Tylenol, etc.) and medication does not cure the problem, but only masks the pain which might lead to a more serious or prolonged pitching arm injury. She got involved with the LA84 Foundation through the YMCA Youth Institute of Greater Long Beach. She’s been a part of the program for 3 years now and she feels lucky to have been given a grant that gives inner city youth the opportunity to be exposed to so many different types of sports that they wouldn’t have been able to do given their socioeconomic status. Sophey plays volleyball, basketball, track, cross country, yoga (if that counts) and has started to get into a few new sports recently due to the grant. She plans to go straight into college and major in business marketing and advertising. Sophey would like to continue what she’s learned with the Youth Institute and school by going into the advertising and marketing industry. Something else that Sophey is extremely passionate about is equal-opportunities for all. And with this grant, she is able to explore some things that are classified as “upper-class activities.” This is a start to even the playing field and she like to thank the LA84 Foundation for choosing the Youth Institute and giving her and her peers these incredible opportunities. Despite her small size and unorthodox windmill stroke, she was a natural-born swimmer, completing laps by the age of two. In 1987, when she was 15 years old, Janet burst onto the international swimming scene, breaking world records in the 400m, 800m and the 1500m freestyle. A year later at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Janet won gold medals in all three of her races: the 400 meter freestyle, 800 meter freestyle, and 400 meter individual medley. In 1992 in Barcelona, Janet defended her gold in the 800 freestyle and added a silver medal in the 400 freestyle. At the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Janet swam in both the 400 meter and 800 meter freestyle but failed to medal. The highlight of those Games came at the Opening Ceremonies, where she passed the Olympic Flame to Muhammad Ali. Through that once in a lifetime opportunity, she saw another side of the Olympic experience which changed her forever. She retired from competitive swimming at the end of the Atlanta Games. During her career, Janet broke a total of seven world records in three events (400 meter, 800 meter, and 1500 meter freestyle). Her 1500 meter world record stood for 20 years, her 800 world record stood for 21 years, and her 400 world record stood for 19 years, making them some of the longest standing records on the swimming books. Janet was inducted into the US Olympic Hall of Fame in 2004 and the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2001. In 1989, she was awarded the prestigious Sullivan Award as the United States’ top amateur athlete. In 2010, Janet mounted a comeback in the sport with the goal of competing at the Olympic Trials in 2012 in the 400 meter and 800 meter freestyle. She successfully qualified for the Trials, and, at the age 40, had the recent honor of trying out for the Olympic Team in both events in July of 2012. More recently, in September of 2015, Janet was selected to be the primary athlete voice of the Los Angeles 2024 Olympic Bid. As the Vice Chair of the Bid Committee and Head of the Athletes’ Commission, she worked closely with Paralympians and Olympians to ensure they were effectively represented in the city’s bid for the Games. She will continue her role with the newly formed LA2028 Organizing Committee, as her team works to ensure that the athletes of the world have the best possible athlete experience at the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Out of the pool, Janet has also made a name for herself as a commercial spokesperson, author, reality television personality, and a highly sought after motivational speaker. Her first book, “Janet Evans’ Total Swimming,” was published in 2007 and offers fitness programs, workouts, and proper swim techniques to readers. Janet executes speeches for top companies in varying fields including: Technology, Healthcare, Real Estate, Telecommunications, Apparel, Banking, Insurance, non-profits and many others.
