So how do they hold up now that some time has passed. Are they worth your money over the newer models or even the competition? Opening it up reveals the headphones nicely tucked away inside. It really shows just how flexible these headphones are. They’re ready to be thrown in your bag without a second thought. Along with the headphones, you’ll get a micro USB charging cable and a 3.5mm audio cable. It would’ve been nice for them to give the QuietComfort 35 II a USB-C charging port, but at least they still have a headphone jack. Everything about them was almost identical, save for a few key features. For one, the newer series II has an Action button that can be used as a dedicated Google Assistant button, allowing you to activate the Google Assistant seamlessly right from the headphones. Since the release, there’s also been an update to make them compatible with Amazon Alexa as well, so if that’s your personal assistant of choice then you’re in luck. It’s pretty nifty but in my testing, I basically either kept it on or off so I’m not sure how useful it is. Still, at least you have the option to control it if you want that extra bit of customization over how you listen to music. It’s pretty cool, especially since the process is helped along by a small voice egging you along in your ear. After you select your language and pick a nickname you’ll get to the Action button setup, which lets you choose between Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and an active noise cancellation toggle. You can ask your Google Assistant questions through your headphones just like you would if you activated the assistant on your phone, except it’s much quicker. On top of all that, when you turn them on they seamlessly connect almost AirPod -like. Super quick. So everything else about these including the build quality, sound quality, and battery remains pretty much the same. But in case you missed our first review, we’ll dig into each of these now. The new design and sleek aesthetic is the most obvious difference, but besides that there isn’t too much technically different between the two. The earcups are no longer made of the microfiber cloth here, which is a negative for me as I found the newer model to be slightly less comfortable because of this. Still, it really isn’t a big deal and that’s just me being nit-picky. The new model is still very comfortable, just not as comfortable. Again, I mostly keep it either on or off, but if you want more control you have it here again. It’s also slightly better at cancelling outside noise than the QC35 II, so if that’s what’s driving your purchase decision then there’s your answer. Of course, there are now better options available like the Sony WH-1000XM3 and even the new Bose model of headphones, but both have their negatives as well. So if these just do it for you, then the Bose QC35 II are still a great pick-up today especially if you can find them on sale. Still expensive, but your patience will save you a good amount of money. Now there are plenty of other options to choose from as well including a few from Sony. I already mentioned the Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones but if you don’t feel like spending that much money you can also go with the Sony WH-CH710N headphones which offer ANC as well as a great battery life. The Bose won the test for its noise cancellation, performance talking to people on the phone, comfort on my head, and sound processing. Phone performance: I compared how the Bose and the Sony sounded when recording and playing back my voice with a fan running in the background. The Bose sounded like I was holding an old fashioned handset and talking in a quiet room - intimate and zero background noise. The Sony sounded like I was on speaker phone, and I could hear some background noise. (As a control I also recorded using neither and it sounded like I was on speaker but also I could hear more background noise.) Sound quality The Bose and Sony both have excellent sound quality for playing music. I personally prefer the sound the Sony produces. The Bose iphone app doesn't do very much at all. The Bose on the other hand just stops the noise. There is no delay, no white noise, just quiet and your music. Controls The Bose controls are intuitive to find and to use. I like that the on-off control is a switch to flip on and off (rather than a button to find). Also, you can use this button to switch between devices, for example between your phone and ipad and your TV amplifier. The right earcup has three small buttons in a row together, and they control a lot of things. The left earcup only has the google assistant button, which I programmed to instead control the amount of noise cancellation (high, low, off). Song playback sounds much better with noise cancellation on high, and I don't think that has to do with noise (I was in a quiet environment); the bass sounds enhanced with noise cancellation on for some reason. (In comparison, the Sony lets you swipe the earcup itself to control volume, pause, play, skip, etc. This seems great in theory, but in practice if I bumped the earcup adjusting my glasses or whatever, the music would pause. I found the Sony to be somewhat buggy in that regard. It would stop playing at times and I had to pick up my phone to get the music re-started, which is annoying.) I found the Bose controls to be more intuitive and consistent. Also, when you switch them on a voice tells you how much battery you have left, which is handy. Comfort The Bose QuietComfort truly is comfortable. The earcups are soft, there is not a lot of clamping, and the top band is padded so it's less annoying on the top of the head. (In comparison, the Sony do have more clamping which was uncomfortable over glasses.) I am a pilot and wear a similar headset, so I'm familiar with how headphones feel after a few hours. On-ear are not going to be as comfortable for long term wear as earbuds would be, but I was wiling to make that trade-off to get superior sound quality. Style The Bose are more streamlined to my head.I purchased these headphones for their noise-cancellation abilities. I am an application developer and wear them at work because I am easily distracted. I don't even listen to music with them.I also use them for WebEx and Skype calls with clients. The built-in microphone is great and the noise-cancellation is helpful during those calls as well. Battery life is extremely good. I can go an entire week without having to charge the headset. An added feature is that the bluetooth feature will allow you to connect to and hear audio from two sources at the same time. This is great if you want to connect to your iPhone and laptop at the same time. After a month of use, the headphones button would no longer work to pair to a new device. It would still power on and off, just the pairing didn't function. Bose support was difficult to deal with. At first the support technician didn't think there was anything wrong with the headset. After a frustrating conversation, he relented and sent me instructions for sending them back to the manufacturer. This would mean that I would be without my precious headphones for at least two weeks. The next day prior to dropping the headphones at UPS I came across The Bose Store at Tysons Corner Mall. I had the headphones with me so I decided to speak to one of the employees there. After a very brief conversation, and even though I purchased these through Amazon, he walks over to a display, gets me a brand new set of headphones and proceeds to exchange my defective ones for the new set. No other questions asked. I wish customer support would have been as easy to deal with.ANC was nice and bluetooth stable. Unfortunately, the google assistant app decided to update my firmware to 2.5.1 by it self!! Seriously Google? Ask me for permission first. Afterwards, ANC got noticeably worse. I played various background noise on my speakers and there was no difference between low and high ANC. Bluetooth skipped every 2 seconds if both Mac and iPhone were connected whereas it worked seamlessly before. Symptoms didn't go away after updating to the 3.1.8 firmware via Bose's website. These are getting returned. If you get these headphones, DO NOT update them - please. If it ain't broke don't fix it. This happened when opening the app.The Bose QC35 Series 2 and the brand new Sony WH-1000XM3. I have used both for walking, aeroplane travel, travel on the underground in London and and general stuff like walking and around the house. The Sony’s - Greatly improves over the series 2 version of the headphones. They are a right fitting headphone, very loud and impressive base. You can fiddle with the base, treble and noise cancellation until your hearts content as it’s all adjustable via the app. The best thing about these is the noise cancellation. It is the market leader and has overtaken the Bose in this area. They are comfortable and made to high standards. You can even adjust the noise cancellation at different altitudes such as in the aeroplane and this works well. I actually fell asleep with them on recently which was a first as I hate flying. Wearing them and walking I did feel a bit weird for some reason. I think it was the noise cancelling software, perhaps it’s a little too good. The Bose’s - They feel lighter, easier to live with, more roomy than the Sony’s and not as tight a fit which I think makes the more comfortable. The noise cancellation is excellent and you can set them to high, low and off levels. The noise cancellation works very well, however not quite as good as the Sony’s, which you can fiddle with until your hearts content with the app. The sound quality is brilliant, you do get more mid level sound with the Bose, though the Sony’s were definitely louder with more richer base. I wish you could adjust the base and treble but you can’t or at least I can’t find out how you do it. You can adjust these setting with the Sony’s in the app. The winner for me was the Bose. They are lighter, your ears don’t get hot or sweaty when wearing them and they have more room. Yes the noise cancellation is very slightly substandard to the Sony’s when side by side testing (though still pretty amazing) and they aren’t as loud, but they are the best for all day wearers. If I only wanted to use my headphones for an hour or two per day, the Sony’s would win hands down (although I found them a little tight for my big head). I advise you to try both pairs, but consider the anount of time you’ll wear them for each day as comfort is really important when you have to live with these headphones. Consider the weight you like to have on your head, comfort around your ears such as the fit and tightness. Comfort becomes more important than being able to fiddle with sounds such as base and noise cancellation when you don’t actually like the things in your head. So please buy the most comfortable and then everything else will fall into ace and you’ll love your decision between these two amazing brands. Last point. I got these for 20k during the sale but still unacceptable. It was so shocking to me that I went to a bose store to check a) if they are genuine or not b) to demo a pair to see if the issues exist in the demo as well. Please try again Voy a explicar un poco el funcionamiento y una pequena comparativa con sus rivales. - SONIDO. Estos Bose me han sorprendido gratamente en cuanto al sonido y potencia. El sonido es muy claro, equilibrado y con unos bajos potentes. Escucho todo tipo de musica, desde clasica, jazz hasta pop, rock y electronica. La musica electronica suena muy bien gracias a los potentes bajos. Los medios son correctos y los agudos me parecen equilibrados respecto al resto. El resto de estilos que escucho suenan muy bien aunque en la musica sinfonica tengo que ecualizar para que los bajos destaquen un poco mas con el resto de frecuencias. - CANCELACION DE RUIDO. El sistema de cancelacion es muy bueno. Reduce practicamente a nada el ruido exterior pero hay elementos como voces cercanas que si pasan. Hay aspectos que parecen como de magia. Es realmente bueno e indicado para aislarte del exterior y escuchar musica sin distracciones y ademas a un volumen inferior (nuestros oidos lo agradeceran). Tiene tres niveles: alto, medio y desactivado. Se puede cambiar comodamente desde el boton habilitado para ello en el auricular izquierdo (tambien sirve para el Google Assistant). Con respecto a sus rivales, la cancelacion de los Beats es muy inferior pero la de los Sony a mi me parecio superior a estos. - MATERIALES. Como todo en la vida tiene pros y contras. La parte que apoya en la cabeza esta hecho de una especie de piel sintetica y la superior tambien. Ambas son muy agradables al tacto. Los auriculares estan muy bien acolchados y con tacto muy suave. Las bisagras estan reforzadas con tornillos metalicos. Esto me da sensacion de mejor durabilidad (los Beats pierden mucho en este aspecto). - COMODIDAD. Son realmente muy comodos. La disposicion de las orejeras en oblicuo ayudan a que las orejas no toquen en ningun momento las paredes. Doy constancia de ello porque no es que tenga unas orejas pequenas, mas bien pecan de grandes. Los puedes llevar durante horas y no te vas a sentir agobiado (los Beats me apretaban un poco demasiado y a veces me dolia la cabeza y los Sony no me resultaron tan comodos como estos). - BATERIA. La bateria no esta mal. El fabricante dice hasta 20 horas pero sus rivales en este aspecto tienen bateria de mayor durabilidad.
