In a major shift, for 1987, International became the first truck manufacturer to produce a medium-duty product line powered exclusively by diesel engines.The S-1800 and S-1900-were produced as both semitractors and straight trucks, while the S-1700 and S-1800 were used in the production of International Harvester bus chassis (primarily for school bus use). Configured primarily as tractors, the S2100 was fitted with a sloped hood. To accommodate larger-bore diesel engines under a standard-length hood, the S2200 was fitted with a widened cab (distinguished by a two-piece windshield). While the cab structure was retained, the interior and exterior underwent a complete redesign. To optimize aerodynamics, the model line was given a lower hoodline and closer-fitting fenders (with halogen headlamps and wraparound turn signals). An all-new dashboard received a redesigned instrument panel along with a two-spoke steering wheel. From 1989 to its 2001 discontinuation, the exterior remained nearly unchanged; in 1992, International changed the design of the instrument panel, updating the entire interior in 1995. Configured nearly exclusively as tractors, the 8000 series was powered by the Cummins L10 diesel; the 7100 was a variant powered by the DT466.During the 1990s, the set-back axle 2674 was restyled with the aerodynamic hood of the 8300.Throughout its production, the S series would be used as a cowled chassis for bus manufacturers. The technology on this tractor is not obsolete it’s hard to find a mechanic that can work on an engine without a computer. Thus the manual is your computer.Not like a Chiltons Not like a Chiltons. Very basic and not much in illustrations and detail. If you are familiar with the tractor in the first place it has some handy specs and references.So far, this thirty something dollar book has been zero help. Not the easiest to navigate. The information isn't the best.It is printed on thin paper. The index system is based on paragraphs instead of pages which is odd.It does not go into detail about magnetos. It does though offer enough exploded views of the entire tractor with instructions to at least get you started if you are CAREFUL in repair. This is not a beginners manual, but a good one if you know Farmalls or have a good friend who has ripped them a part to ask questions when you mess up. You will also need to time the injector pump, I believe they were 19 to 21 degrees. You really need a manual, or at least a printout of the page showing you the gear arrangement. I replaced a couple brake lines and new gas, charged battery etc. So I finished up the brakes today and it's in working order. I took it down the road to test out the brakes and they work great.Up and to the left was reverse and down left was first but second seemed like it wasn't there and I was trying to get the truck going from 1st to 3rd.What is it and do I risk screwing up the engine if I run it without it. The best I can tell is that it circulates some sort of air or oil into each of the 8 cylinders. You'll need one to be smog legal, though, I imagine. The engine size and serial number will be stamped into a pad next to the rear mounting bolt for the fuel pump. There is no reason to think it's not a V-345.There is no script on the rocker covers that I can see.Rocker covers cut out around plugs, and exhaust manifold bolts all in a line, nothing else it can be.Does this help?They switched to Ford and GMC after that since they could no longer get the gas engines to do their LP conversions.
