Similarly the ability to scan forward and backward was very good, and there's some very high speed scan modes that I found unusual and nice to have. The only quibles I might have is that the remote, while competent, doesn't really make it easy in terms of getting subtitles up. Further, the unit seems to do well enough with regular DVDs, but some of the features are really DVD-RAM only. HDMI output worked well (1080p), and is a nice future-proof feature. Some complained about the channel-to-channel switching speed, I found that in general to not be a problem, it's not fast, but I've seen far worse. The tuner does seem to do a very nice job of finding all the available channels, setup was very easy, and it quickly found the right time and so forth. Quite possibly this is the best unit on the market in terms of a DVD recorder (without harddisk), at least until something comes along in Blu-ray or HDVD.There are also some cute functions like the ability to playback at 1.3X normal speed (works fine with news programming) and the video thumbnails for playback selection. The tuner works well and tolerates a wide range of signal levels, though digital sub-channels take a couple of seconds to lock (vs. 1 second for analog stations). Also, I have had no occurrences of software bugs after I read the manual and stopped pressing buttons faster than it could keep up. I would not recommend this hardware, however, if you only want to make an occasional DVD-R recording (there are less expensive units for that), or if you expect up-converted signals to rival HiDef (there are much more expensive units for true HD capability). The entire unit takes 15-20 seconds to power up and accept commands from the remote (say you're turning it on, then trying to view the DVD menu on a disc you've recorded), and like many DVD recorders, it will refuse to copy a manufacturer's original VHS.http://www.imagemarte.com.br/arquivos/california-dot-bridge-design-manual.xml So if you want to turn those old VHS copies of your favorite Hollywood movies into DVDs, you don't want this recorder. Honestly, this is a stupid function, and if I would have known about it, I would have purchased a different brand that didn't infringe on my legal right to make a backup copy of a movie I already own. I haven't tried to record from HBO or anything like that, but recordings from PBS, SciFi, History Channel, and a few other cable channels have come out fine. It's not a bad recorder, but there's plenty of room for improvement. The two most important improvements with the DVD recorder are: 1) It has a digital tuner, so my rabbit ears (I have no cable or dish) pick up digital broadcast stations, which are received easier than the analog ones. The once-snowy channels are now crystal-clear. Distortion can still occur, but it's still better than analog, which I can still receive, anyway. 2) This unit does not have the out-of-sync problem (sound not synced with picture) that many DVD players have. The last DVD player I bought had this problem right out of the box. Very frustrating. The reason I didn't give more stars is because the unit is slow to some commands, and because the menus are difficult to navigate. The folks that never knew what the blinking 12:00 on the VCR was for, may have a hard time learning how to use this unit. Keep in mind, the sluggishness may be the nature of the technology, and not the fault of this unit. It's the only DVD recorder I've used. For those concerned with the switch to digital broadcast in February 2009, this unit allows you to receive digital broadcast and keep your analog TV. Update: I've struggled with this unit for a year, now, and it has turned out to be faulty. Windows pop up randomly during playback, and it refuses to detect digital channels anymore, no matter how many times I reinitialize. I am very frustrated, and I'm changing my stars: One star.Still a great TV but no tuner.http://superbia.lgbt/flotaganis/1648163578 I tried a Samsung that looked great but ABC HD station did not come in over the QAM tuner. We sent it back. Read the reviews of the EZ27K. Downloaded the manual and the firmware patches. Once I was happy I had all the stuff I needed (based on the reviews of errors) I purchased the unit. Very happy. The quality of the HD is great and NTSC stations are no worse than the TV's tuner. The optical out put activates 6.1 or 7.1 sound correctly. The down sides are few. The manual does not mention an ATSC or QAM so I thought I got the wrong unit. The settings for the TV screen are a little confusing. I just kepts making changes until it looked the best. It did not detect time using the auto function. That will be a problem when we lose power. My cable company does not seem to send Guide info so that is kind of sad to see that field empty. All in all i would recommend the unit. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness. It has pretty good upconversion of DVDs to 1080p, but then so does my Denon amp. On the downside, this machine has a fairly steep learning curve vis-a-vis editing features. You must go to the machine and push that button. Fortunately, I have a Harmony universal remote which DOES allow me to open and close the DVD drawer. Go figure. It has DIVx capabilities, but these work intermittently for no good reason. Would I buy it again. Probably not. I'd wait for the Bluray version (if such a thing ever comes out) to be able to play AND record in that format. Please try again later. Please try again later. Triplec 3.0 out of 5 stars It probably will be at least a year or two before HD recorders come out and then they may be very expensive. Now I can wait for prices to drop and still enjoy primetime shows in high quality picture and sound. The recordings aren't high def (they are downconverted to 480) but look clear and you do get dolby digital 2.0. It easily beats my VCR. I prepared for some bugs in this early first generation model by reading reviews here and at AVS forum. If you buy or have bought this model, you should try this: disable the autoclock and set it manually and set DST(daylight savings time) to off. It has solved many problems that other people have had. I have lost two timer recordings so far: the shows never taped for some odd reason. The unit is slow and you must be patient. I recommend that you purchase the Panasonic DVD rams here on Amazon. I have a widescreen tv. These are the only discs that will preserve the widescreen image of primetime shows(WYSIWYG). If you use other discs, widescreen recordings are played back squashed into a 4:3 box on a widescreen tv. You then must use one of your tv picture modes to expand the image.fannal.com/d/files/canon-elura-70-instruction-manual.pdf No disc formatting or finalization is required so easy to use. Please note that these discs most likely can't be used on other dvd players. I'm generally happy with the unit and accept the slowness and possible glitches. It is the best that I could do for now until the products become more refined and affordable hidef recorders hit the market. Please try again later. Please try again later. David S 5.0 out of 5 stars My older Panasonic recorder didn't even have a tuner for that reason so I'm still a happy camper. As for everything else, it works as well as my old unit which means pure perfection in every way that I can measure. In addition, through the HDMI connection with my new Pioneer AV amplifier, the available surround audio is detected and selected, making the whole setup a dream to experience. (Watching my old DVD's is like seeing (hearing) them for the first time again!) One nice feature of Pioneer's DMR DVD recorders is the FR or Flexible Recording feature. It allows you to determine the recording speed according to the length of the program material. In this mode, even with a three-hour program, the final quality is nearly the same as SP speed. A lot of my old DVD's were recorded in this mode, and even though they play back fine on all normal players, I was a bit concerned about compatibility in this regard. (I needn't have worried, all my old disks play back fine.) I also have the ability to play CD's on this unit, even with mp3 tracks, and my old unit wouldn't do this. After this purchase, I will trust them completely.)Please try again later. Please try again later. Happy Camper 3.0 out of 5 stars I finally got a magnavox 1TB HDD recorder for over the air TV. This product was ok 6 years ago but now its time to move on. I used it to record over the air TV onto DVD-RAM. Each disc can only hold up to 8 hours of programming. So there was a lot of having to watch programs to then delete them so I could record other shows.https://makaeximworld.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1628db30b33678---carrier-presenter-0646-manual.pdf As a digital tuner and DVD player it worked great no problems. Please try again later. The set blinks as if it is starting to record, but the timer never starts ticking off the time, like it does when it records successfully. Hmmmm. anyone's guess as to whether it will record that future program. When it does record, the picture is very good. However, if I had to do it over, I would probably wait for better technology. Or look into recording those occasional HD programs on the computer. Please try again later. Please try again later. With a slot for your SD digital image memory card, you can create a slideshow of your favorite photos on your Pansonic plasma television. Tired of tangled wires. HDMI Simple Connection lets you connect your components with one cable, while EZ Sync HDAVI Control means you can connect your DVD player to your Panasonic components and control operation with one touch of your remote. It uses a signal processor to effectively control noise and distortion, and its proprietary matching circuits allow it to transform and separate digital or analog signals. When digital broadcast signals drop out, generally the picture either disappears or becomes filled with block-noise, but the Accutune Digital Tuner produces a beautiful picture even under difficult reception conditions, such as when there are obstacles interfering with direct signal access. With twice the horizontal resolution when recording in LP mode, you can fit up to four hours of recordings on one DVD and still enjoy crisp, vibrant and exceptionally detailed images.https://www.euroservicemilano.it/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1628db30dacacf---Carrier-programmable-thermostat-manual-0441.pdf 1080p up-conversion with HDMI converts video images to 1080p digital resolution for sharp, high-impact images. With a Panasonic DVD recorder, never think twice about what disc you need. Panasonic DVD recorders are equipped with a high-precision progressive video processor that handles 30-frame progressive scan images1 on NTSC discs. This lets you enjoy high-resolution progressive playback of original DVD images. I definitely recommend that you buy DVD-RAM discs with this unit for day to day recording.A lot were negative, but it had the features I was looking for, so I took a chance. Overall, it was well worth the money. There are some drawbacks, and ideally I would like a DVR with built in HD, but there are a limited number on the market. I don't like the fact that for the scheduled recording to take place, you need to turn the unit off. If not, it won't record. I found out tonight I had back to back shows to record and while I was watching the other, the second show didn't record because the unit was on. I do like the fact that after I bought this, I bought and HDTV antenna and like magic, had FREE AIR HD quality local TV channels. I was so happy, I canceled my cable service and am, now enjoying free TV. Overall, I like this unit. It does what it says and though I could nit-pick little things, the fact that it records and allows me crystal clear free TV with no DVR fees, is well worth the price. Thanks NewEgg!Better then a VCR. Scheduling is easy and recordings are of a good quality. HD tuner and HDMI output.I do not have a HDTV so I can not comment on its clarity. I am using s-video and optical with no problems. I only purchased it so I can get rid of my VCR and use it for recording the occasional program I do not want to miss.It records in amazing HD quality output, barely any difference. It is extremely user-friendly, and recording is a breeze.familybuildersconstruction.com/home/apf/public_html/ckfinder/userfiles/files/canon-elura-65-user-manual.pdfI use the device connected to my DVR so I am able to view my Satellite image with zero delay, and just press record when I find a show I like, or record straight from a program I have recorded on my DVR. It is an amazingly simple process, and the outcome is perfect. I already have a brilliant collection. I would suggest this method, as it seems to be fool-proof for me. All in all I give this product a 10 for quality, ease, and general functionality. Another hint, I don't use the HD Input, I only use S cables, the image is significantly better than with the HD input. Also has a QAM for any digital cable signals sent in the clear. Upconversion (but only over HDMI). Captures HD signals in the correct format which can then be squeezed onto a recording in anamorphic ratio. Watch a previous recording while recording something else (DVD-RAM only). Simple editing tools for recordings - splicing chapters and dividing tracks. LP quality is pretty good, giving you 4 hours recording that's much better than VHS. SP is passable DVD quality. Flexible recording option calculates the compression rate necessary to fit an entire recording perfectly on one disc. Black level adjustment options.Channel deletion has to be done from memory - no way to see which channel you are deleting from the lineup which is a pain if it pulls in 200 blank digital channels. Onscreen menus are fairly crude. Fan has an annoying noise at low volume. No HD passthrough - all HD signals are downconverted first. No component in, SVideo is as high as you can capture from non-Firewire sources. DVD-RAM discs are not easy to find.If you only have VCR this would make a good replacement if you need something now. It won't be obsolete in a year. If you have a DVR this will give you some backup and extra recording options without needing clunky tapes stacked around. It is great in this area. The battery cover is very thin and breaks easily. Second time the whole system worked for about 1 day and then stopped completely to respond to any button pushes from the remote or the actual DVR. Third time the DVR would not eject the disk. I had a DVD-RAM disk inside and it would not eject.Nobody matches it!I even tried different hdmi cables hooked up to my 1080p monitor after I called customer support (suggestion was to try different hdmi cable) and the highest resolution it would let me select is 1080i. I'll be returning the product. Called customer service and they gave me a list of compatible cables for the hdmi problem I was experiencing. If this unit is hdmi cable picky, then why not just include the hdmi cable. I do have my computer hooked up and my monitor shows 1080p no problem so it's got to be the dmr-ez27 or very picky on hdmi cables. 2.) The digital tuner selection between channels is ungodly slow. Like 2 to 3 seconds for the screen to appear while surfing thru digital channels. That's way to darn slow for me when looking for channels to watch. 3.) Tuner and dvd player makes strange noises.Click here for more details. Secure shopping made faster. Check out with PayPal. Once you've experienced the simplicity of hard drive video recording and editing, it's hard to go back to recording on capacity-challenged removable media. But then I heard Panasonic was releasing a DVD recorder with a built-in digital (ATSC) tuner, as well as 1080p upconversion via HDMI and I decided it was time to give non-hard-drive based DVD recorders another chance. If you're wondering why they'd include a digital (ATSC) tuner on a standard definition recorder, well it can be summed up in two words: future proof. In 2009, when the FCC has mandated that analog TV broadcasts go offline, all of the standard NTSC tuners built into today's DVD recorders, TVs and VCRs will be obsolete. Oh, you'll still be able to record from a cable box or external set-top box, but you will no longer be able to tune in your shows and record them directly onto a hard drive, DVD or tape without the help of an external tuner. Its built-in ATSC tuner will access any of your locally broadcast digital channels (standard def or high def), over the air or on cable, now and into the foreseeable future. After recording (and finalizing), discs recorded on this player can then be played back on the unit itself or on virtually any other DVD player. As to how it manages to do that, read on. Features and Ergonomics As with just about any product that includes a tuner, the first step is to plug in your antenna (or cable TV cable) and allow the recorder to find local channels. When the search is finished, you can manually delete any channels you don't watch or which aren't coming in well. This process on the Panasonic was remarkably quick. The unit found the clock signal embedded on the local PBS channel less than 5 minutes after being plugged in (and before I had even powered it on). I set the HDMI output to 1080i to match the input resolution of our Panasonic plasma, set the screen shape to 16:9 and that was about it for the set-up. It is a standard definition ATSC digital tuner, which means it can tune in channels digitally and even supports widescreen 16:9 broadcasts, just not in HD resolutions. The 480p signal of the tuner is then upconverted to 720p, 1080i or 1080p for output to an HDTV-enabled display device. If you're using this on a standard definition analog television, then you can use the component video, composite or S-video outputs to send a 480i 4:3 signal to your TV. In addition to standard DVDs, the EZ27 supports viewing JPEGs, from CDs, DVDs or SD cards, and playback of MP3 audio files from CD-R or CD-RW. This seems an odd limitation, as MPEG4 playback of video files was supported in some earlier DVD recorders from Panasonic. Of course, like a VCR, you also have to make sure you have a blank DVD in the drive with adequate space to handle your scheduled recordings, otherwise timer recordings will fail. For those of us spoiled by living with Tivos and other hard-drive-based DVRs (digital video recorders), this is probably the hardest hurdle to jump. But those used to DVD-only recorders or VCRs will not be bothered by this limitation. This is just a fancy way of saying that the recorded program will be named the same name as the recorded show, without you having to specify a name manually. I was somewhat surprised to find that the recorder must be powered off in order for programmed (scheduled) recordings to take place. In terms of inputs and outputs, the EZ27's jack-pack is pretty comprehensive. For inputs you have S-video and composite video and audio inputs, plus a DV input for direct digital transfer from a digital camcorder. Digital and analog audio outputs are included as well. The video output was then sent to a 1080i-compatible Panasonic plasma TV via HDMI. So the signal remained in the digital domain all the way from reception to display on the plasma flat panel. So if you're interested in reusing the discs after recording, select one of these media types. But these discs can present compatibility issues as they're not as likely to play on other DVD players (particularly DVD-RAM discs). You can have any menu you want as log as it's blue with 8 items per page. This menu style is perfectly fine for most purposes, including both a thumbnail image (selectable) and up to 44 characters of text for each recorded program, but it would be nice to have the option of changing it.This seems to have been an isolated incident as it only occured once during our testing. Personally, I prefer recording on DVD-RAM discs for a few reasons. First of all, it is only on DVD-RAM that we were able to correctly capture widescreen programs in their 16:9 aspect ratio - anamorphically squeezed to fit the 720x480 native resolution of DVD, and expanded back out to 16:9 automatically upon playback. This is the same way that widescreen DVDs work. Plus recording on a DVD-RAM makes it very easy to transfer the program in high speed onto an earlier generation Panasonic recorder that includes a hard drive. The only drawback with DVD-RAM is that it's the least compatible with other players. Only a small sample of players on the market today support direct playback of DVD-RAM discs. Viewing Impressions Panasonic's recent DVD recorder models have had some major picture quality improvements made to the LP (Long Play) recording mode. This mode records up to 4 hours of content on a single layer 4.7 GB DVD. In earlier models, video resolution was limited to about 250 lines due to the lower bandwidth. The improvement is quite noticeable and makes the 4-hour LP speed a viable option for archiving shows on a minimal number of DVDs. Of course, if you're really aiming for high video quality. So, for example, if you want to record a 2 hour 10 minute long movie, you can use FR mode to optimize the recording rate to use every last bit of the DVD storage available. Overall video quality was at least as good if not better than earlier generation Panasonic DVD recorders we have tested, with the considerable improvement in picture quality in LP mode. That is to say, XP mode is significantly superior in resolution and detail to any S-VHS recorder we have used or tested. SP mode is also quite acceptable, nearly indistinguishable from the original analog or digital broadcasts. LP mode is now eminently watchable, even on a large screen 50-inch HDTV set, though the digital artifacts are more noticeable than in SP and XP modes. In EP mode (in the 8-hour default setting), the picture suffers pretty noticeable digital artifacts, such as macro-blocking, muted colors and false contouring. It's really not much better than EP mode on a VHS recorder. It will do in a pinch if you have to leave the unit recording for up to 8 hours while unattended, but it is not really something most people would enjoy on anything larger than a 20-inch screen. One way the new Panasonic is superior to earlier DVD recorders is that it can record widescreen (16:9) programs in anamorphic mode.
