After a while you can start turning the igniting knob from Closed past the ignition click while holding it down. You may start smelling some gas, but this is OK, as long as it's in a ventilated area. Sometimes it will ignite at the first attempt and other times it will take a couple of attempts. Hold your hand above the vent right above where the flame is supposed to be. You'll feel it warm up within a couple of seconds after it has started working. Hold the knob down for a second or two longer, just to make sure the flame doesn't go out and let go.
