CAUTION A battery can present a risk of electrical shoc k and high short circuit current. If it is inadvertentl y grounded, remove the source of the ground. Contac t with any part of a grou nded battery can result in electri- cal shock. The likeli hood of such shock wil l be reduced if grounds are remov ed during installation and maintenance (applicab le to a UPS and a remote battery supply not h aving a grounded supply circuit). Upon generation, AC power is clean and stable. However, duri ng transmission and distribution it is subject to voltage sags, spikes and complete fail ure that may interrupt co mputer operations, cause data loss and d amage equipme nt. The Liebert GXT3 protects equipment from thes e disturbances. These features can minimize any surges or inte rference present in the utility pow er. The filters also prevent surges or interference generated by the UPS from adversely affecting devices connect ed on the same branch as the UPS. Inverter In normal operation, the Liebert GXT3’s inverter utilize s the DC output of the PFC to produce precise, regula ted sine wave AC power. When util ity power fails, the inverter receives DC power from the DC-to-DC Converter. In either operation mo de, the UPS inverter is online, continuously generating clea n, precise, regulated AC output power.DC-to-DC Converter The DC-to-DC converter raises the D C voltage from the battery to the opti mum operating voltage for the inverter. This a llows the inverte r to operate co ntin uously at its optimum efficiency and voltage, thus increasing reliab ility. Battery The Liebert GXT3 uses valve-regula ted, nons pillable, lead aci d batte ries. Optional extern al ba ttery cabinets are available to extend battery run times. Dynamic Byp ass The Liebert GXT3 provides an alte rnate path for utility power to th e connected loads in the unlikely event of a UPS malfunctio n. Should the Liebert GX T3 have an overload, overtemperature or UPS failure condition, the UPS automatically transfers the connected loads to bypass. 1.5 Operating Mode The UPS operation modes include: Utility (AC) mo de, bypass mode, battery mode, battery recharge mode and frequency converter mode. For the descriptions of indicators and co ntrol but tons in this section, refer to 3.0 - Controls and Indicators. 1.5.1 Utility (AC) Mode During Util ity (AC) Mode, u tility power p rovides energy to the Liebert GXT3. During manual bypa ss mode, utility pow er bypasses the inv erter and provides energy to the connected load. NOTICE Turning Off the UPS in bypass mode will result in loss of output power and dropped loads. NOTE The bypass power path does not pr otect the connected loads from disturbances on the utility.
