Honestly, it just isn't as good, but it's still worth buying and studying. You'll learn something new on every page; there have been far more changes in version 11 than I had previously imagined, and you will not get by on your version 7 skill set. Unfortunately there is no calculation function reference and no script step reference. A rather small subset of the functions and steps are discussed in the book. There is a list of error codes, but no recommendations as what to do. The index is fine. The screen shots are on the small side. You can probably read 20-30 pages a day and go through the book and examples in about one month. If you get stuck you can always go to fmforums.com for help by the FileMaker community.As a beginner database designer (and I was thrown into database design via the sink or swim method), this book is as painless as it gets. I only regret I cannot read, type and think faster. It's fun! This is a highly formatted book and the formatting makes it easy to use, understand and to reuse as a reference. Stripping away the formatting for the Kindle was a desecration of all the work the editors and authors put into the book. Buy this book on paper (5 star book!).
