ford 801 select o speed tractor manualI don't know which one it is. Does the 881 have a handle on the left side, to change from 540 to 1000 rpm or ground speed on the PTO. The handle in question is just behind the clutch, which this one has. Also, I am not really crazy about the SOS, due to some bad reports, I have heard over the years. What do I need to look for, with the transmission? He said it is more trouble and very expensive to tear the trator apart to fix. When I shut the tractor off the PTO stops until I pull the handle out again. A minor inconvienence. I have a 861 gas and a 841 diesel. I may just go ahead and add this to my collection. Hood and bumper is in good shape and two back fenders are descent. One has a dent on the top of it. He says it runs good and transmission works in all gears, no problems. I have just seen close up pics of it and will go test it out, later. He wants 2200 for it, which I think is probably a good deal with it being a SOS. You can use the brakes to load the transmission, assuming that they work properly but will need a PTO driven implement to verify PTO clutch operation. Do not be concerned that the PTO runs on when disengaged and unloaded as this is normal since there is no PTO brake. Dean Our 881 has both of these.Filter and oil change, how often. The outer pedal operates the right brake. The serial number is located on the casting just to the right of the starter. Record it and you can find the year from that number. The pto shaft is driven from a clutch actuated buy the lever you mentioned. Does it turn under load with the lever in the disengage position. You may be seeing idle rotatioin when there is no load. It never hurts to change fluids. I suggest you get a manual for it before doing any maintenance or adjustments.I will look into getting a manual, any idea where to find such a thing. Toward the front of this plate is a short shaft with 2 flat sides. This shaft is held from moving by a metal plate that slides over the shaft and the other end has one of the bolts of the round plate holding it in place. On my tractor you remove the strap and turn the shaft clockwise to disengage the rear wheels. Do not try to tow or pull the tractor without disengaging the wheels or damage can be done to the trans. I got it home did a tune-up on the engine and rebuilt the carb. After tig welding the tube back together since they are no longer availble and adjusted the bands I still couldn t get the old beast to move. I could hear all of the servo s working and the three planetary gear sets working as I would shift through the speeds. So I decided to remove the axel coupling access cover and found that the lever on the panel was not in contact with the coupling. So I repaired that and put the tractor back together and was able to drive the tractor out of the garage and around the yard.
