mercedes benz w220 repair manualNissan Altima transmission systems can develop problems that you can resolved via some basic troubleshooting techniques. Difficulty Shifting You may encounter difficulty or failure when shifting a Nissan Altima if the transmission fluid is of poor grade or is contaminated. Replace the transmission fluid with high-grade fluid, and seal the transmission pan with silicone to prevent leakage. Overheating A Nissan Altima transmission can overheat because of clogged fluid cooler lines, which in turn can lead to transmission failure. Inspect the cooler lines for obstructions, and clear them out to restore the transmission back to normal operating temperatures. Slipping Gears Slipping gears in a Nissan Altima transmission may be caused by internal clutch failure, a bad pan gasket or leakage caused by a loose filler tube. Inspect the tube for looseness, and secure it as necessary, and also check the gasket and clutch for signs of damage or wear and replace them as needed. How to Reset the Computer on an Audi. Upon arrival to san diego ca, I decided to take to mossy Nissan (national city). I was told that I needed a new clutch. I was reffered to Nissan 1 for assistance. Nissan covered the replacement of the clutch. It has then been about a year and a half and issue persists. Now clutch drops and I have to pull over, wait a few minutes and see if clutch comes back up. Cannot put vehicle in gear while clutch is down. The contact stated while driving she continued to hear a loud noise coming from the back of the vehicle. She also mentioned that every time she had to shift gears they would lock and in order to continue driving she had to engage the shift release button. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the gear shift needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 84,000 and the current mileage was 86,000. I have brought the car to the dealership several times and they say they have replaced the cylinder, but the problem persists. I did a little online investigating and it appears as though I am not the only person that owns an Altima that is plagued by the safety issue. It almost is impossible to shift. When driving the clutch sinks. Several pumps will get it back in order. Also at times on a cold start it doesn't feel like the clutch disengages completely. It's like everyone else; the clutch gets real floppy and looses pressure until it sinks to the floor and wont return. This has happened to me about 30 or 40 times since buying the car in October 2009, but I can't replicate for the dealer. They also say that they have never heard of this before, and nobody has ever complained about it to them - apparently they are lying. This afternoon, I was driving my son home from daycare, and the clutch did this very thing, but for the first time, I could not get the car out of gear and I was in bumper to bumper traffic. I almost hit the guy in front of me.http://www.oncopathologie.com/userfiles/cooling-towers-manual.xml When I finally yanked it out of gear, I couldn't put it back into gear because the clutch was stuck to the floor.I have been on many forums where this seems to be a major problem with alot of 6 spd transmissions for the Altima. I have had the car since Jan 2007 and have had this problem a few times. Once, the car just didn't start at all cause I had to pressure in the clutch and had to be towed and the Nissan dealership in austin replaced both the slave and master cylinder and said that would fix it but I still get the same problem. My father and a couple of my friends who drove the car have has the same problem. Just want to have the car fixed so I don't have to worry about this anymore and want to know what to do next.During hot weather of after the vehicle is driven for extended times, the clutch will make a howling sound accompanied with a shuttering when released to pull off from a full stop. This event will also cause the vehicle to stall unless excessive revolutions (over 3000 RPM) are applied during release. In traffic or on a hill, this has caused the vehicle to roll backwards. Took car to a couple of dealerships; all of whom claim inability to reproduce the issue. This has been happening since October 2007. This issue only appears when the drive train is warmed up; however, it pretty much occurs each and every time when the temperature conditions are met.Periodically throughout the last 30 months the clutch would fall to the floor while driving, making it difficult to shift. The solution was to catch the clutch with the driver's toe and raise it manually back into position each time prior to a shift. This is difficult, distracting, and dangerous and could easily cause an accident. I reported it to my dealership but they were unable to duplicate it and therefore did not fix the problem. This month, at 38,000 miles, the clutch has fallen to the floor and has remained stuck there, rendering the vehicle completely undriveable.https://ayurvedia.ch/bose-quietcomfort-2-manual-pdf The Nissan file number is 6393944. It is my hope that someone will take an interest in this issue before this incident causes a fatal wreck.During the past mont I have been experiencing a problem with my clutch pedal going all the way to the floor when pressed and not returning. I checked on line and identified that apparently with the 6 cyl. Engine and standard transmission this is a common problem with the break down of the dot 3 brake fluid that is used in the clutch master cylinder. Many sites recommend the higher boiling temperature of the dot 4 or 5.1. the dealership insists that dot 3 is sufficient however in talking to other Altima owners on line it is a recurring problem.Happens once a month in traffic or on hot days. Nissan has not yet fixed the problem. It is dangerous being stranded on the highway. On one occasion, when the vehicle was placed in reverse, it rolled forward to the sidewalk. On two occasions, when the vehicle was placed in reverse, it rolled forward towards the sidewalk. The contact used both the foot brake and the emergency brake to finally stop the vehicle. The vehicle was never taken to the dealer. On twelve occasions, when the floor clutch was pressed, it became stuck. She had to manually work the clutch back to its normal position. On three occasions, when driving between 1-20 mph, the engine would shut off. On two occasions, while the vehicle was idling, the engine shut off. On four occasions, the vehicle restarted on its own. On one occasion, she had to call roadside assistance for a jump start. The vehicle sustained damage to the front bumper from rolling forward into the sidewalk. In January of 2008, the contact received a letter from Nissan concerning her vehicle not having ABS; however, the information she received when the vehicle was purchased stated that it did have ABS. The powertrain was unknown. The current mileage was 28,650 and failure mileage was 9,286.http://www.compass-it.com/images/canon-ir5070-service-manual-pdf.pdf Driving along highway and unable to get the car in gear during a downshift. Today when I was driving it wouldn't let me shift from 1st to 2nd gear. It would only let me get it into third. Once in third it wouldn't let me get into any other gear. The gear stick is physically stuck in third gear and will not move. The car remains in third. The clutch will release, taking it out for gear, when its depressed, the car will roll backwards. Any help would be appreciated. First, determine if the problem is your shifter or inside the tranny. Lift the car, unbolt the striking rod (shift control rod) from the u-bracket on the tranny. If it's in 3rd now, then use a heavy hammer to gently tap the bracket back into neutral and further into 4th. If it's willing to do that, then your problem is just something between the bracket and your shift knob. If you can't shift it that way, you have an internal problem in the tranny. It could be broken detente springs, damaged shifter gates, or something else broke loose and is now blocking the shifter mechanism from moving. Unfortunately to solve this problem you need to drop the tranny and have it opened up for repair. Dave They are independent publications and are not affiliated with or endorsed by Nissan or Infiniti. I bought the car about 5k miles ago. At around 2-3k miles ago is when the problems started. At first, once in awhile, I would notice very minor resistance going into 2nd gear only when the car was cold. It would disappear very quickly, maybe after around a couple of minutes. This slowly worsened. This is what I have gathered so far (feel free to correct me if I am wrong anywhere, I'm not saying that these are right or even make complete sense): But I am nearly 100 positive it is not leaking, because I have multiple times placed pieces of cardboard underneath after driving to catch any drips, and haven't caught a single one. If that were the case then the syncros would be worn down and the tranny could heat up enough to start burning the fluid. Anything will help. Thanks! As to why it is low I have no idea. It was changed roughly 8k miles ago. I couldn't catch any drips coming down either. I do now know that my syncros are brass and because of that my car requires gl4 gear oil. Gl5 eats away at yellow metals and will wreck my syncros. So I suppose it is a possibility that the dealer just didn't care and threw in gl5. I will update my answer and mark this question as answered when I bring my car in and find out what caused the condition of the fluid. There is a good chance that this was not done when the clutch was replaced, and who knows how long that oil has been in there. My friend had similar issues with her transmission and after changing her fluid (which was absolutely disgusting) almost all problems went away. It is the cheapest route and will more than likely show some sign of what may be going on. Provide details and share your research. Manual transmission fluid or gear oil is thicker due to additives and divergent compounds critical to lubricate the gearbox and divergent components. Manual transmissions have a higher friction environment due to the way gears are changed, thus the lubricant is distinctive. Not only are the fluids contrasting between manual and automatic transmissions but the level of heat the fluids experience is very contrasting. Automatic transmissions generate a lot more heat and thus the fluid in your transmission must be replaced more consistently. It is a continuation of the Nissan Bluebird line, which began in 1955.The first through fourth generation cars were manufactured exclusively in the United States and officially sold in North and South America, along with the Middle East and Australia. For other markets, Nissan sold a related midsize sedan called the Nissan Teana which was between the Altima and Maxima in terms of size. In 2013, the Teana became a rebadged version of the fifth generation Altima. In 1992, Nissan discontinued the Stanza which was a Nissan Bluebird clone, replacing it with the US-built Altima, while remaining a compact car. The first Altima was produced in June 1992, as a 1993 model. All Altima models were built in Smyrna, Tennessee, until June 2004, when Nissan's Canton, Mississippi plant also began producing the model to meet high demand.Being one of the bigger compact cars, the Altima could seat four adults fairly comfortably, though its body was too narrow for five. Trim lines consisted of the stripped XE, mid-line GXE, sporty SE, and luxury GLE. Some options included a gold emblem package, molded mud guards, and a pin stripe. All models had small cup holders under the radio and a small glovebox which were improved in the 1998 redesign. The mid-line GXE had power windows, a power retracting antenna, pass thru rear armrest, a digital clock in dash (became optional on 1995 models), and color matched plastic speaker grilles for the rear 6-inch speakers. The XE and GXE models only had the fixed intermittent wiper switch. It also had 4-wheel disc brakes, which came on the other trim lines when antilock brakes were ordered. The 1989 to 1994 Maxima and 240SX had similar technology but only showed speed. For 1997 it gave up all of the above in exchange for standard leather (previously optional). All SE and GLE models had alloy wheels and variable intermittent wipers. The 1995 model year (introduced 1994) also brought a new venetian blind -like grille, new taillights (red and clear), and a new 2 leg mount spoiler with a red LED brake light for the SE. Some other changes included the removal of the rear speaker grilles for a flat rear deck, a cheaper cloth interior, a plastic cover replacing the rear ashtray, and the digital in dash clock was now optional. For the 1995.5 model year in March 1995, a raised mount passenger airbag with a new inflator was introduced in post-March 3, 1995 production. 1996 brought new wheel covers for base models.A new interior (by Diane Allen) brought a revised glove box and cup holders, a folding back seat (except on XE), and depowered airbags. The Japanese domestic market Bluebird U14 has different front and rear ends, and slightly narrower width dimensions to comply with Japanese government dimension regulations. On the downside, many were let down by the new model's plainer styling and cheapened interior; some also felt the gas pedal was now too lightly sprung. The SE can be distinguished by its body-color grille, fog lights, rear spoiler, alloy wheels, and white-faced gauges. In this generation of Altima, all GLEs had leather seats standard. The Altima grew slightly longer and got a deeper front grille, one-piece headlamps with integrated turn signals and standard low-speed cornering lamps, all-red taillights, and plastic trim on the deck lid. Inside were new front seats with a driver's height adjuster, cup holders for the rear seat (automatic transmission models only), revised seat cloth, a new instrument panel with digital odometer, a new rear window antenna, and the keyless entry fob now included a trunk release. Side airbags were newly standard on GLE and available on GXE and SE. For 2001, the Altima GXE again gained a Limited Edition package: power driver's seat, keyless entry with alarm and floor mats. The Asian Nissan Teana is similar but not quite identical, designed for Southeast Asian market requirements; all three model lines shared the same platform. The Altima grew significantly for this generation, as interior volume expanded to 118.8 cubic feet (3.36 m 3 ). The Altima's interior dimensions even surpassed that of the higher-end 2000-03 Maxima, so the 2004 Maxima was moved more upscale into the full-size bracket. Also biggest in class was the Altima's 20 US gal (76 L; 17 imp gal) fuel tank. Additionally, the Altima upgraded its rear suspension to a multi-link type and its brakes to 4-wheel discs. This was the first generation to offer a V6 engine. Some also found the steering too light and or abrupt, and the turning circle too wide due to its elongated wheelbase. Some cases were because of owner neglect and other cases involved the catalytic converter failing, forcing foreign objects back into the exhaust manifold. The lawsuit originally alleged that Nissan manufactured those model years with defective floorboards on both the driver and passenger side of the vehicle but was dismissed by a judge in January 2016. The resulting premature rust was extensive and generally happened out of warranty. The real cause was that the front mudguards were not high enough and there was no stoneguard applied to the metal plates underneath the vehicle. Other car makes from other car manufacturers have also experienced the same problem to a lesser extent. It was the first vehicle to use the smaller Nissan D platform, with a new front and upgraded rear suspension. The wheelbase is 1-inch (25 mm) shorter than the third generation Altima, but interior space was mostly unchanged. The Maxima and Murano also used this new platform starting with the 2009 models. As with the previous generation, it shares much of its mechanicals and platform with the Nissan Teana which is built for different market conditions in Asia. The dashboard was designed with larger buttons for easy readability and a total of eight cup holders, two in front of the center console, two in the rear armrest, and one 20-ounce cup holder in each door. Several hidden compartments were added as well as doubling the glove compartment space to 0.46 cubic feet (13 L).Other cost-saving measures on the 2.5 included the deletion of features such as the door handle-mounted touch sensors for the Nissan Intelligent Key system (keyless entry and push-button ignition were still included), the ability to lower or raise the power windows from the keyless entry remote, some of the standard cup holders, the overhead sunglass storage compartment, and the carpeted trim on the inside of rear trunk lid. The 2.5 models also did not include 2.5 lettering on the rear trunk lid of the vehicle.
