Disconnect the power and open the casing to check the Thermal Unit (Refer to Thermal Unit Failure ) and fan airways ar e free of obstructions. 5. Remove all external and non-esse ntial hardwa re connected to the computer that a re not necessary to boot the computer to the failure point. 6. Remove any recently installed sof tware. 7. Drain stored power by removi ng the power cabl e and ba ttery.DDR R AM m odu l e Co nnec t i t well If the computer boot s co rrectly, add the devices one by one until the failure point is discovered. 9. Reseat the memory modules. 10. Remove the drives (Refer to Maintenance Flowchart ). 1 1. If the Issue is still not res olved, refer to Online Support Information. If extensive pixel damage is present (dif ferent colored spots in the same locations on the screen), the LCD is faulty and should be replac ed. (Refer to Maintenanc e Flowchart ) NOTE: NOTE: Make sure that the computer is n ot running on battery al one as this may reduce disp lay brightness. 2. Adjust the brightness to its hi ghest level. Refer to the User Manual for in structions on adjusting the settin gs. If the display is too dim at the highest brightnes s setting, the LCD is faulty and should be re placed. (Refer to Maintenance F lowchart ) 3. Check the display resolut ion is correctly configured: -. Readjust if necessary. 4. Roll back the video driver to the previou s version if updated. 5. Remove and reinstall th e video driver. 6. Check the Device Manager to determin e that: -. The device is prope rly installe d. There are no red Xs or yellow e xclamation marks -. There are no device conflict s -. No hardware is listed under Other Devices 7. If the Issue is still not resolved, refer to Online Support Information. 8. Run the Windows Memory Diagnostic from the oper ating system DVD and follow the on-screen pr ompts. 9. If the Issue is still not resolved, refer to Online Support Information. Control Panel ? System and Maintenance. System ? Device Manager. Check the Device Manag er to determine that: -. The device is properly installe d -. There are no red Xs or yellow exclamation ma rks -. There are no device conflict s -.Click the volume icon on the taskbar -. Drag the slider to 50. Confirm that the volume is not muted. -? Click Mixer to verify that other audio applications a re set to 50 and not mut ed. 6. Navigate to Sta r t. Control Panel ? Hardware and Sound ? Sound. Confirm that S p eakers are selecte d as the default audio de vice (green check mark ). NOTE: NOTE: If S peakers does not show, right-click on the Playback tab and se lect Show Disabled Devices (clear by default). 7. Select S peakers and click Configure to start Speaker Setup. Follow the on -screen prompts to configure the speakers. 8. Remove any recently insta lled hardware or software. 9. Restore system and file settings from a known go od date using System Restore. 10. If the issue is remains, repeat step 9, selecting an earlier time and date. 1 1. Reinstall th e Operating System. 12. If the Issue is still not res olved, refer to Online Support Information. Navigate to Sta rt. Control Panel ? Hardware and Sound. Sound and select the Recording tab. 2. Right click on the Recording tab a nd select Show Disabled Devices (clear by default). System and Maintenance. If a device has an exclamation mark, un install and reinst all the driver. 9. If the exclamation ma rker is not re moved from t he item in the lists, remove any re cently installed sof tware and retr ying the operation. Discs Do Not Play 0 If discs do n ot play when in serted in to the drive, per form the following: 1. Check that the disc is correctly seated in th e drive tr ay and that the label on the disc is visible. 2. Check that the media is clean and scr atch free. 3. T ry an alte rnate disc in th e drive. 4.
