Y ou can change what appears on each page, adding up to two Widgets per screen. 1. F rom a Home screen, press either the Up or Down Navigation key, highlight t he Edit icon, and press the Center k e y. 2. Use the Navigation key s to highlight a page and a Widget or a placeholder for a Widget. 3. Press Options. The following options appear: - Save: S ave the page with the current Widgets. - Add: Add a Widget to the current position on the page. - Move: Move a widget to a new page. - Remove widget: Remov e the widget ( only appears if there is a Widget in the current position ). - Remove pa ge: Remove the page from the list of Home screens. This also removes all widgets on the page. Remove page appears only if there is at least one Widget on the page. - Reset: Reset the page, removing all widgets on it. Change Displa y A ppearance Y ou can change and customize se veral featur es of the Main and Cover display. See Display for more details. Viewing Received Mess ages When on a Home screen, new text messages, multimedia messages, and voice messages display on a separate page of the Main Screen. Use the navigation ke ys to select the t ype of message you would lik e to review. Press Open (in t he case of V oic email, the sof t ke y displays Dial and dials your V oic email). The Messaging, Recent Calls, or V oice Mail screens display with the details of the inc oming communication. If you exit from this screen, navigate to the Messaging or Recent Calls screen to check V oicemail mes sages. Or, dial your V oicemail contact to access the mes sage. Know Y our Device 12 Home Screen Sound: Normal sound mode is enabled. Silent: Silent mode is enabled. Wi-Fi act ive: Wi-Fi is active. Signal st rengt h: Cellular net work signal strength. No net work: No wireless net work is available. 4G: The device is connected to a 4G wireless?net work. Stat us Bar Icons Memor y card: An optional memor y card is installed. Connected to a computer: T he device is connected to a computer using a USB?cable. New email: A new email message has arrived. New voicemail: A new message has been received. New text message: A new te xt message has arrived. New multimedia mes sage: A new multimedia message has arrived. Call in progress: A call is in progress. Know Y our Device 13 Status Bar These k eys are r eferenced throughout this user manual. S o f t Ke y s There are t wo sof t ke ys: t he Lef t Sof t ke y and the Right Sof t ke y. The roles of the soft keys vary depending on t he function you are currently using. The labels on the bot tom line of t he display, just above each soft key, indicate the current function of the c orresponding k ey. Press the Up or Down Navigation key s when browsing the web to jump highlighted links on the web page. Tip: The C enter Navigation k ey can often be used ins tead of the Select sof t ke y. Know Y our Device 14 Navi gation Acc essing a Menu Function by S crolling 1. F rom a Home screen, press Menu. 2. Scroll using the Right and Lef t Navigation keys to reach a main menu item, such as Set ti ngs. Press Select to enter the menu. 3. If the menu cont ains sub-menus, you can access them by ?rst highlighting the option and t hen by pressing Select. 4. If the menu you selected contains fur t her options, repeat this step. 5. T o scroll through these menus, press either t he Up or Down Navigation key or the V olume ke y (located on t he lef t side of your phone). Press Select to make your selection. 6. T o return to the previous menu level, press Back or Clear. 7. T o exit the menu without changing the set t ings, press Exit. Using Shor tcut Numbers Numbered menu items, such as menus, sub-menus, and options can be quickly ac cessed by using their shor tcut numbers. Sh or tc ut s Y our phone o?ers shor tcuts from Idle mode that can be customiz ed for your e a se and speci?c needs. The shor tcuts menu is accessed by pressing the right sof t ke y when on a Home screen. Note: If there is only one shortcut con?gured, then that app’s name appear s above the right soft ke y. If t wo or mor e shortcuts are con?gur ed, then the word Shor tcuts appear s abov e the right sof t ke y. Sel ect ing O pt ions T o view the various functions and opt ions available and to select the one you want: 1. Press the appropriate sof t ke y. 2. T o select the funct ion displayed or the option highlighted, press Select. 3. T o view t he next function or highlight the next option on a list, press the Down Navigat ion ke y or the Down Volume k ey on the lef t side of the phone. 4. T o move back to the previous function or option on a list, press t he Up Navigation ke y or the Up V olume key on the left side of t he phone. 5. T o move back up one level in the menu structure, press Back. 6. T o exit the menu structure wit hout changing the set tings, press Exit. Know Y our Device 15 Navigation This section also describes how t o use t he T9 predic t ive te xt syst em to reduc e the ke y strok es requir ed to ent er te xt. T e x t Input Methods T ext input can either be Alphabetic or Predictive. For e xample, Predict ive text on means that y ou are curr entl y using Alphabetic input and w ant to switch to Predic tive te xt. ABC ( A lphabetic ) Input Meth od ( abc, Ab c, and ABC) Use this input method to enter let ters by pressing the ke y labeled w ith t he let ter you want. Press the ke y repeatedly until the desired let ter, character, or number displays. The abc mode makes all characters of the word lowercase. The Abc mode makes the initial character an uppercase while the remaining characters are left as lowercase. The ABC mode makes all char acters of the word uppercase. The 123 mode only allows numbers to be entered. T9 Predi ctive T e x t Input Method (T9Eab, T9E Ab, a nd T9E A B ) Use this input method to enter words with only one ke ystroke per letter. Each ke y on t he ke ypad has more than one let ter; for example, pr essing the 5 ?ke y can enter J, K, or L. However, the T9 method automatically compares the series of ke ystrokes y ou make with an internal linguistic dictionar y to determine the most likely word or words, thus requiring far fewer k eystrok es than the Alphabetic method. The T9Eab mode makes all characters low ercase. The T9E Ab mode makes the initial character an uppercase while the remaining characters ar e lef t as lowercase. The T9EA B mode makes all char acters uppercase. Note: The E in T9E indic ates English. S is f or Spanish and F is for F rench. Changin g t he T e x t Input Method When you are in a ?eld that holds characters (such as in a text message), the text input method indicator displays. Know Y our Device 16 Entering T ext Using the Alphabetic Input Met ho d T o use the ABC Alphabet ic input method, use t he Tw o t hrough Nine ke ys to enter your te xt. 1. Press the ke y labeled w ith t he let ter you want: - Once for the ?rst let ter, - T wice for the second let ter, and so on. 2. Select the other let ters in t he same way. Note: The cursor moves t o the right when you press a di?erent k ey. When entering the same letter t wice or a di?erent le t ter on the same ke y, just wait for a few seconds f or the cursor to mo ve to the right automatically, and then select the next letter. Key s The following char t lists the key s and the characters associated with each key. Press each key only once for each letter. The built -in dict ionar y lists potential words that match the entered ke ystrokes. For e xample: T o enter “Hello”, press The word that you are typing displays on the screen. The word changes as you press additional ke ys. 2. Enter the whole word before editing or deleting the ke yst rok es. When t he word displays correctly, go to Step 3. If the desired word does not display, press t he Down navigation ke y to see alternati ve word choices. Note: The words “Of” and “Me” bo th use Six and Three. The phone displays the most commonly used choice ?rst. 3. Inser t a s pace by pressing the Zer o ke y and star t entering the next word. 4. Know Y our Device 17 Entering T ext Press and hold Clear to clear the display. Using the Symbols Input Method The Symbol input met hod enables you to insert symbols and punctuation marks into te xt. 1. T o enter symbol mode, press the Asterisk k e y. 2. Use the Up and Down Navigation keys t o scroll through pages of available s ymbols. 3. Use the eit her the number key s to select a symbol. 4. T o return to your message, pr ess OK or the Center ke y. Pr es s Cancel to return to your mes sage without entering a symbol. Note: Af ter the ?rst symbol ha s been selected f or entering t ext, the ?rst page to appear after pr essing the Asterisk k ey is called My fav orites, which sav es the symbols you use the most. Using t he 1 2 3 Numeric I nput Met ho d The Numeric mode enables you to enter numbers into a text message. Pr es s the key s corresponding to the digits you want to enter. Know Y our Device 18 Entering T ext Explore f eatur es and functionalit y associated with making or answering a call. Mak ing a Ca ll When the Home screen displays, enter the area code and phone number, and t hen press Send. Note: When you activat e the A uto Redial option in the V oice Call menu, the phone automatically redials up to 10 times when the person does no t answer the call or is already on the phone. Ma king a n Interna tional C a ll 1. Press and hold Zero. Press Clear. - T o enter a missing digit, press the Lef t or Right Navigation key until the cursor is in position and enter the digit. - T o clear the whole display, press and hold Clear. 2. Press End to return to the Home screen. Ending a Call When you want to end y our call, press End or close the phone. Ma nual Pause D ialing When you call automated sy stems, you are often required to enter a password or account number. Instead of manually entering the numbers each time, you can dial the numbers along with s pecial characters called pauses. T o manually call a number wit h pauses without storing it in your Contacts list: 1. F rom a Home screen, enter a phone number. 2. Press and hold the Asteris k k e y to add a t wo- sec ond pause. The let ter P will appear where the pause has been set. 3. Continue to enter numbers, if desired. Tip: Y ou can creat e pauses longer than t wo seconds by ent ering multiple P pauses. Calling 20 Calling The la st number dialed displays as the ?rst item in a list of recent calls. If t he caller is listed in your Addr ess Book, the associated name displays. 2. Press Send to call. Dialing a Number Fr om the Recent Calls Menu All incoming, outgoing, and missed calls are listed in the Recent Call menu. If t he caller is listed in your Address Book, the as sociated name displays. T o access t he Recent Calls menu: 1. F rom a Home screen, press Send. 2. Use the Lef t and Right N avigation ke ys to scroll through the Recent Calls pages. Choose from All?logs, Missed calls, Dialed calls, Received?calls, Sent msg., Received msg., and Push to talk. 3. Scroll to a number and highlight it to select. 4. Press Send to call. Mak ing a Call from the Addr ess Book Y ou can store phone numbers that you use regularly on the SIM card or in the phone’s memor y. These entries are collectively called t he Address Book. Once a number is stored in the Address Book, you can dial it by pressing a fe w ke ys using the Speed Dial feature. For furt her details about the Address Book feature, see Address Book. Answering a Ca ll When you receive a call, the phone rings and displays the caller’s phone number or name, if stored in the Address Book. 1. For an y answering mode, press the Send key t o answer an incoming call. Note: T o reject an incomin g call, press and hold either V olume ke y on the lef t side of the phone befor e opening the phone. T o silence the ringer on an incoming call, press either V olume ke y once. 2. Press the End key or close the phone to end t he call. Note: Y ou can answer a call while using the Addr ess Book or menu featur es. Af ter ending the call, the phone re turns to the function scr een you w ere usin g. Viewing Mis sed C alls The number of missed calls displays on both the Home screen and the front panel L CD. T o v iew the number details: 1. If the phone is closed, open t he phone and press Open. The most recently missed call displays. Note: If there is a v oic email sent by the same number, associated icons ar e displayed and can then be selected. 2. Scroll through the list of missed calls. Calling 21 Calling Saving a Miss ed Call to Y our Addr ess Book T o save a missed call entr y to your addr es s book, use the following steps: 1. Af ter missing a call, press Open. The most recently missed call displays. 2. With t he missed call selected press Options. 3. Highlight Add to cont acts and press S elect or the Center k e y. 4. Highlight eit her Create contact or Update existing and press Select or t he Center k e y. For furt her details about the Address Book feature, see Address Book. Sending a Message t o a Missed Call T o send a text message or att achment to a missed call entr y: 1. Af ter missing a call, press Open. 2. Press Options. 3. Use the Navigat ion ke ys to highlight Send Message, and press Select or the C enter k e y. 4. At the SMS screen, use t he Alphanumeric ke ys to t ype in a message. 5. Press the Down Nav igat ion key to jump to the Add ite m window. Pr ess the Right or L ef t Navigation ke ys to highlight Image, Video, Sound, T emplate, or Emot icons, and t hen pre ss Add to add a multimedia item to your message. 6. When you complete your message, press Send to initiate deliver y. Note: When you inser t items in your messa ge, the message type automatically changes to Multimedia Message. Deletin g a Missed Call T o delete a missed call entr y: 1. Af ter missing a call, press Open. 2. Press Options. 3. Use the Navigat ion ke ys to select Delete and press Select or t he Center k e y. 4. At the Delete ? prompt, press eit her Ye s to con?rm the deletion or No to cancel. 5. Press Exit to exit the Missed Call feature. Opti ons During a Call Y our phone provides a number of control functions that you can use during a call. F rom a Home screen, y ou c an also use the V olume ke ys to adjust the ringer volume. Managing Multiple Calls Y ou can place the current call on hold whenever you want. Y ou can also make another call while a call is in progress, if your plan supports t his ser v ice. T o place a call on hold: 1. While on a call, press Hold. This act ion places the current caller on hold (which dis plays on the screen under a tab called On hold ). 2. Y ou can resume this call by pressing Ret ri eve. Calling 22 Calling Note: The c aller curr entl y on hold is put on a window called On hold. When you are enga ged in an act ive call and also have a call on hold, you ma y sw itch bet ween the t wo calls. S witching calls automatically places t he second call on hold. Using the Sp eakerphone During an A ctive Ca ll While in an active call, you can enable the speakerphone f eature. 1. Dial the number and then press S end. 2. Press Spkr on to activate the speakerphone. This feature is av ailable both when dialing the number and when the call is answered. 3. Use the Volume k eys (located on the lef t side of your phone) to adjust the volume. Muting K eypad T on es Y ou can turn the key tones o? or on durin g a call. If the Mute ke ytone option is selected, you can press ke ys without hearing key t ones during a call. Note: T o communicate with answering machines or computeriz ed telephone systems, the K eytone op tion must be set to Unmute (on ) in the in-call Options menu. S witchin g o? t he Micro phon e (Mute ) Y ou can temporarily switch your phone’ s microphone o? so that the person on the ot her end of the call cannot hear you. Calling 23 Calling Y ou are noti?ed of an incoming call with a Call Waiting tone. Note: T o use this featur e, Call waiting must be activat ed. The ?rst call is automatically plac ed on hold. This places the current call on hold and then activates the previous call. If this ser v ice is suppor ted by the net work, all calls can be joined together.
